The Power of Truth

Science can show us the power of truth in the world. Through discovering and using the truths of nature we can do all kinds of things we could not do before. This can also show us how truth is the greatest power within nature, that the laws of nature underlie all creation. There are the laws of the physical universe and also the laws of the mind. These two are connected in the workings of the brain, of course, but in the wider scheme of things there is no boundary between these different kinds of truth. We could even say that there is a greater mind or consciousness that is both formed and represented by the mutual interactions between meaning, information or truth and the material world.


The purpose of Dhamma is to show us the power of such truth in the mind and heart. Through knowledge of Dhamma, through understanding how the mind works and how it relates to the world, we can discover a greater kind of happiness than we ever had before. The Dhamma is not just an understanding of the mind. We are not just trying to fix the mind through our Dhamma practice. Dhamma understands the link between the truths of nature and those of the mind. The truths of nature, if we can see them can deeply, effect the mind just in the same way that the underlying laws of nature are the creators of nature. Just in the same way that we can effect nature through science it is possible to change the very nature of the mind by seeing the world clearly with a peaceful mind.
